Many times all we need is a push in the right direction in order to start on a project and complete it. That is what you should consider this advice. This is a set of easy ways that will help gently nudge you towards a debt-free lifestyle. Suffice it to say that if you like the results, you will want to go further and create a plan to carry out this strategy so that you are completely debt-free. But, before you run, you have to crawl and then walk.
Before you begin with these strategies you need to collect all of your information about your creditors. Every one that you owe money to you need to list on a piece of paper or on a computer spreadsheet. Put down the name of the creditor, the account number, the customer service phone number, the website address and your current balance as of the date of the creation of the list.
Strategy one. Prioritize the creditors by amount owed beginning with the lowest up to the highest. Attack the lowest amount owed group first. Pay off those amounts as quickly as possible. Be sure to contact the creditors and communicate with them that you are in the process of paying them down and no longer want the account to remain open. Close the account and never use it again. This will free money that you have been paying in late fees and interest. At the same time, keep paying just the minimum amounts on the other cards and accounts just to keep them at bay until you can work with them.
Strategy two. Increase your payment amounts. If you have one particular account which has gotten out of hand, the best way to tackle it is to focus on paying as much as you possibly afford for the longest time until you pay off the amount owed. This will work as long as you are not continuing to use the account. Stop all charging activities at once until you get it paid off.
Strategy three. Consider a debt consolidation organization to help you get a handle on your credit accounts. Make sure they are accredited and are a non-profit company. Find out how long they have been in business and check with the better business bureau to make sure they are reputable. They can help you put together a plan to help you meet your debt payments by creating a budget with you that is based on your income and expenses.
These are good solid strategies that will help you become debt-free. Be sure to seek the advice of a professional before you begin a plan that includes these concepts.
