Good post. It can’t be stressed how important it is to work with the IRS if you can’t pay. Setting up a payment plan will significantly reduce penalties over the long run and it will prevent any collection actions that the IRS would take if a payment plan wasn’t used. The normal failure to pay penalty is .5% a month, if an installment agreement is entered into this drops to .25% and the IRS will not take collection actions as long as you keep up on your payments.
