It used to be that the most important card in your wallet was your credit card. But with those on the decline and frugal
shopping on the increase, it is no wonder that we are witnessing a push in bonus shopping cards that offer instant savings on purchases. Do these work and are they worth it? Yes and yes. And here’s how it works.
Go to your local retailer and ask if they have bonus card program. Most of these retailers are advertising them in their stores heavily because studies show that these bonus cards spur sales and create loyalty among customers. So if they have it, they are probably waving them in front of you every time that you check out.
Restrictions and Limitations?
Read the fine print about these cards. Some programs are better than others. There also might be some restrictions and/or limitations on what items add to your accumulating amount. Also, be aware that just because a retailer has a bonus card, does not mean that you will save money over other locations. Know about where the store sits in terms of pricing compared to other stores in your area. They might not be that good of a deal even after the discounts.
Leverage the Cards.
Anytime that you can use bonus shopping cards to decrease your bill, that is a good thing. Also, if you are able to use them in conjunction with coupons and double-coupons – all the better! Look for hidden loop holes in the program that allow you to save even more (but don’t break the rules).
Look for these types of savings programs that you can use your bonus card for:
-
Two for one sales – everyone likes to buy one and get one free.
-
Members only specials – feeling special because of these sales is what it is all about.
-
Rewards points to use on purchases at a later time – building up points is a familiar credit card program, too.
-
Double manufacturer coupon discounts for members only – makes high prices come down quick.
-
Gasoline discounts based on a percentage of your purchases – generous discounts off of gasoline prices.
-
Extra savings on store brands – most store brands of products are just as good as the name brands. Plus, the store brands have a higher profit margin, so they are pushed harder.
If you do not have a bonus card for shopping at your favorite retailer, get one soon. And then use it like a banshee.
