Prepaid is the way to go. I have a Net 10 phone. My calls only cost only 10c a minute and that is the only charge. I have no hidden costs. It is a lot cheaper than my contract was.

I’d have to agree about Net10. If the reason you’re switching to prepaid is to finally know where your money is going (like me) and avoiding the hidden costs and services charges, the only provider is Net10. They offer among the cheapest rates but more importantly their prices and charges are clear, 10c for all calls and 5c for texts. No activation fees and no service charges (many other prepaid services have a per day charge for usage on top of call rates). That way you know exactly what you pay for. Its saved me money and frustration of getting locked into contracts and being charged for things I don’t need or use.

Agreed! Great post!
I’ve been looking for ways to economize and when my cell contract was up, I got a Net10 phone. I pay 10¢ a minute and 3¢ for texts. It’s a terrific value and there’s no contract or overages.
Check it out! You can get ‘em online at net10.com or at Target, Walmart, Best Buy etc.

One of the best ways to save is by simply looking over your current bill and deciding whether you are really getting what you pay for. I left my contract carrier over a year ago for just this reason and went with Net10 prepaid.I’m finally able to cope with my cell phone bill. Without a contract, I have the flexibilty to change phones and plans based on use and price and not be locked in. The calling network is pretty dependable and while the selection of phones isn’t the best, it is better priced than any I’ve found. The best thing about Net10 though is the incredible savings – more than $70 a month for me and all I had to do was limit my talking. Net10 is a great option for the moderate talker who needs dependable service.

Another happy Net10 customer right here! I’ve found Net10 to be a really great money saver and alternative to contract carriers. I’m saving $80 on their basic “easy minutes” plans and without a contract, I have all these minute options avaiable. The phone selection is a bit limited, but very well priced and I can find Net10 anywhere. You can’t find a better deal then Net10′s .10 a call/.05 a text one and you get 300 minutes already at activation. Switching prepaid, Net10 in particularly, was the best choice I’ve made in a long time.

Prepaid is the way to go but I went with Tracfone instead of Net10. unlike NET10’s flat per-minute/per-text rates, TracFone’s per-minute rates depend on how much airtime is purchased. You can purchase airtime for as little as $20 and receive 60 mins talk time. There is no contract and no monthly fees.
