One thing I am learning as I get older is that I must have thrown away hundreds of dollars as a shopper before learning about the benefits of holiday shopping. Retailers make preparations to stock up on next year’s inventory in the early months of a new year and during the winter of the previous year. So, it’s a business game of numbers, moving inventory, and recouping as much as possible on initial inventory investments.
As I have learned, your aim as a shopper should be to compare retailers and look for the deepest savings possible. Over 74 million Americans spent $34 billion shopping on Memorial Day in 2018. That breaks down to Americans spending about an average of $500 each on Memorial Day shopping. However, when broken down by gender, men spend about $600 and women spend about $400.
So, which gender is smarter about savings? That’s up to debate. What isn’t is the fact that you should shop around, whether you visit retail stores or shop online, for the best deals.
